Maca is a rainforest herb that grows wild in the Peruvian Andes. This turnip-looking herb contains many amino acids, vitamins B1, B2, B, 12, C and E, and calcium, phosphorus, zinc, magnesium, and iron. The Andeans believed it enhanced their energy level and kept them healthy. This herb is said to lubricate stiff arthritic joints and help ease respiratory illnesses. It has also been suggested that Maca can aid in fertility, and help overcome frigidity. Peruvian educational and scientific institution studies suggest Maca root can significantly increase sexual endurance and increase both the number and the activity of sperm. This information, however, has not been reviewed or studied much outside Peru.
