Studies have shown that tribulus heightened sexual behavior and it increases intracavernous pressure. This was linked to the increase in testosterone, body composition and exercise performance. Tribulus Terrestris is known as the "puncture vine" because of the plant's spiny parts. Also an aphrodisiac used in Ayurvedic medicine as it was claimed to increase testosterone. During the mid-1990's, Tribulus Terrestris became well known in North America after the Eastern European Olympic athletes said that taking tribulus helped in their performance. The active compounds in tribulus are called Steroidal Saponins. This has two types of compounds namely frustanol glycoside and spirostanol glycosides. It appears to be involved with the effects of tribulus. These saponins are primarily found in the leaf.
